Culligan Home Water Softener Costs

What are the effects of well water (if any) on stainless steel appliances?

I just purchased a home that has well water. I’m used to having municipal. Anyway, I’m considering purchasing a few new stainless steel appliances, and wondered if there would be any negative affects of this type of water on the material over time? To help the situation, I’d like to install a filter at the pump since there isn’t any right now (only a Water Softener), but a reverse osmosis system is going to cost me around $3000 according to Culligan, which is too expensive for me. Any thoughts/ suggestions, or recent experience in this area will be appreciated! Thanks.
